Jay's dad has been in the hospital since mid-August, and he passed away shortly after 12 noon yesterday. He was 65.
We have been dealing with some immediate issues in the past week regarding his health, and things escalated rather quickly. I will explain more later, but for now, please know that we are all doing OK, or as good as can be expected, and we would appreciate any good thoughts and prayers that you could throw our way right now.
There wasn't a clause for it in our ground rules, but yes, we did purchase a couple of meals in the hospital cafeteria during our 36 hour marathon stay at the very end. We aren't sorry, and we don't consider our challenge to be over. It was an unforeseeable emergency. But for the record...
Hospital food is pretty gross.
Also, after planning for his funeral today, Jay said that he wanted something very specific for lunch. His mom agreed. I bought them both lunch, and I regret nothing. Absolutely nothing at all. This was a reason to bend the rules around our no-grocery challenge if I ever saw one. All three of us hadn't slept in roughly 50 hours at this point, and we watched a loved one pass away right before our eyes.
I would give them both the world if I could, but all they wanted was a sandwich from a diner.
We are over what I hope to be the most tragic and intense part of this journey. The next few days, weeks, and months will undeniably be difficult for us all, in varying ways, but we have each other. We will get through this.
Much love to all.
