Yep. Cravings.
When I go on extended backpacking trips, I find that I quickly tire of the freeze-dried or meals that I have planned to consume along the journey. By the end of the trail, I'm usually of the mindset of being willing to trip someone for a really good burger and a beer. Sometimes my trail companions and I discuss foods that sound awesome to us as we rack up the miles. Invariably, none of us want to see trail mix or cup-o-soup ever again.
I think similar things will happen to the Hall house.
We aren't big on going out to restaurants, but there are a few things that we will miss. Usually, I try to replicate these recipes so we can make them at home, but there are a few that I have yet to crack:
-- The local bowling alley restaurant's wet burritos on Thursdays. Oh... those chips, and that cheese covered SAUCE. Drool.
-- Really good steak sandwiches.
-- The local deli's taco salads.
Salad. That one little word opens a whole new Pandora's box of ideas... fresh food. I am thankful for what we have preserved, but I will miss fresh fruit and vegetables very much once our original supply has dwindled. The $20 for the end of each month is meant to help alleviate this, but if at all possible, we aren't going to spend it.
Sun-ripened berries, peaches, sweet sugar snap peas fresh off of the vine, home-grown asparagus... maybe I should just read through my seed catalogs and start planning my summer garden.
Just over 12 hours until the challenge starts...
What would you miss?
