In 2015, our household underwent the challenge of not buying groceries, or food--in any capacity--for as long as possible. We hunt, we fish, we garden, we preserve what we harvest and grow as best we can. We try to be good stewards.
From January 1st, 2015-May 31st, 2015 we were successful in our pursuits, by not purchasing groceries or food of any sort.
Now that our challenge is over, we continue to share what we have learned in the process, and our plans for a second run at the challenge in the future.
Stay with us! The ride certainly is not over!
I'm done thinking about the fiasco that was last night's dinner. Tonight, I brought out the big guns, and devoted a bunch of prep time at home to making sure we would have something simple yet tasty for dinner tonight. Venison gyros hadn't made an appearance in our kitchen since last winter, and they were long overdue. I committed to the cause by making tzatziki sauce last night with some of our precious (dwindling) yogurt supply, and half of our last cucumber. Tonight, I even made homemade pita bread. 3 hour dough is stressful, but it ended up being pretty good. Phew. I think I'm out of the woods regarding what transpired 24-ish hours ago. Now, let's never speak of it again. Other things have come up regarding our challenge. A lot of folks have asked some questions about what we "can" and "can't " do, and I guess there are some gray areas that we didn't cover in our ground rules. That's where you come in. I'd like your feedback, please, on a couple of questions below. Also, if you ever feel like leaving comments, feel free. I read, respond to (try anyway), and enjoy your words of wisdom.
